What shape is your garden lounge?

Which cover your lounge furniture needs depends above all on its shape. A corner sofa has two legs of different lengths, a sofa has a step between seat and back, a sun island is round or semi-circular. A boxy one-size cover fits none of these properly. That is why we make every garden lounge cover in five basic shapes, each to your measurements - whether it is a rattan furniture cover for a corner sofa you already own or a cover for our own outdoor lounge furniture. Custom outdoor sofa covers are sewn the same way as covers for a whole set. L-shape and corner sofa

Choose this shape if your lounge sits around a corner, whether the corner is on the left or the right and whether the two sides are the same length. The cover follows both sides instead of sagging into a hollow over the corner. A U-shape with two corners is made as a variant of the L-shape. An example from our range: the Elba corner lounge set.

Garden sofa and lounge sofa

The right choice for a straight sofa with two to four seats. The cover follows the backrest, seat and armrests, so no water is left standing on the seat. Matching furniture can be found under outdoor lounge sofas.

Lounge chair

For single, wide lounge chairs. A lounge chair is deeper and lower than a dining chair, so a chair cover will not fit - for dining chairs there is the garden chair cover. If the chairs always stand next to the sofa, a lounge set cover may suit you better. Examples: outdoor lounge chairs.

Lounge set, rectangular or square

One cover over the whole group of sofa, chairs, footstool and coffee table, pushed closely together. This works when the pieces are roughly the same height, as with the Dublin lounge set. Where heights differ a lot, separate covers are the better choice.

Sun island and daybed

For round or semi-circular sun islands and daybeds, with or without a canopy. The cover follows the curve and the canopy, so no water collects on top. One example is the Baluga sun island.

Table, lounger or special shape

For a single table there is the garden table cover, for sunbeds the sun lounger cover. If your lounge fits none of these shapes, send us a photo or a sketch via our service centre.

Waterproof and ventilated by design

Why "waterproof" alone is not enough

Anyone looking for a waterproof lounge cover thinks of the fabric first. In practice, fit and construction decide. A waterproof cover that is too large often does a lounge more harm than no cover at all - especially large L-shapes with a lot of fabric between backrest and seat. If you simply throw a big tarpaulin over your lounge furniture, you will run into three problems - and this is how we solve them.

A pool of water on the seat

Loose material sags between backrest and armrests. Rain collects in the hollow, the weight stretches the fabric and pulls in more material, until seams give way or water is forced through the coating. A made to measure cover lies taut over the high points and the water runs off. For the same reason: if the pieces stand apart or at different heights, several covers are better than one big one.

Condensation and mildew stains

A cover that reaches down to the ground seals the lounge in. Moisture rises from the ground, condenses on the inside of the cover and drips back onto cushions and weave. That is why we sew with at least 5 cm ground clearance and at least two concealed vents under flaps or fabric folds: air comes in at the bottom, moisture escapes at the top, and rain runs off over them.

Wind under the cover

Too much air under a loose cover makes it balloon in the wind. It flaps back and forth and chafes both itself and the surface of the furniture. A cut that follows the contours leaves little air underneath. Tension straps with click buckles on legs or corner points and a drawcord in the hem hold the cover in place - without elastic that goes slack and without single eyelets that tear out.

Fabric and seams

We sew from Cover-PVC, a PVC-coated polyester fabric with a 4,000 mm water column - so it is genuinely waterproof, not just water-repellent. The fabric is UV-stabilised, lightfast (grade 7-8), abrasion-resistant with 60,000 Martindale cycles and tested to OEKO-TEX Standard 100. It is deliberately vapour-tight - the ventilation comes from the construction, not from the fabric. Seams are carefully sewn and, on request, additionally sealed with welded tape.

How to measure your lounge

The most common worry with a made to measure cover is that it will not fit in the end. A few simple steps are all it takes - and if in doubt, we check your measurements together with you before production.

From outer edge to outer edge

Always measure length, width and height at the widest and highest point, including armrests and back cushions. If the cushions stay under the cover, measure with the cushions in place.

Corner sofa - each side separately

For an L-shape, measure both sides separately from the outer corner to the end, plus the depth. Tell us whether the corner is on the left or the right, seen from the front.

Back height and seat height

For sofas and corner sofas, measure the height of the backrest and the height of the seat. Only then can the cover follow the step between seat and back instead of sitting over it like a tent.

Sun island with canopy

For a sun island, measure the diameter or the width and depth, plus the height - with a canopy, up to its highest point. A photo helps us capture the shape and the canopy correctly.

A lounge furniture cover - often simply called a garden lounge cover or a tarpaulin - protects outdoor lounge furniture from rain, leaves, bird droppings and UV light. Unlike a loose sheet, it is cut to the shape of the furniture: L-shape, sofa, chair, set or sun island. We make it to measure from waterproof Cover-PVC with a ventilated construction.

Yes, if the furniture stays outside - but only with a cover that is ventilated and does not rest on the ground. A waterproof cover without vents and ground clearance traps moisture, and condensation and mildew stains form underneath. In that case the furniture would be better off uncovered, because it dries faster.

Lounge furniture has large seat and back surfaces, often with cushions and weave. Rain, leaves, pollen, bird droppings and sun take their toll: cushions get stained and colours fade. With a well-fitting cover, the furniture stays clean and dry and is ready to use sooner when the sun comes out.

By shape first: L-shape for corner sofas, garden sofa for straight sofas, lounge chair for single chairs, lounge set for groups standing close together and sun island for round daybeds. After that, fabric and construction count: genuine waterproofing with a stated water column, vents, ground clearance and a fastening that holds in wind.

That depends on how the furniture stands. If sofa, chairs and table are pushed closely together and roughly the same height, one shared cover fits. If they stand apart or at very different heights, hollows form between the high points where rain collects. Then separate covers are the safer choice.

Rain does not get through, cushions and frame stay dry. Cover-PVC has a water column of 4,000 mm - that counts as reliably waterproof, rain beads up and runs off the cover. It is important that the cover is also ventilated, so moisture from below can escape.

Ours is - but through the construction, not the fabric. Cover-PVC is vapour-tight and therefore fully waterproof. Ventilation comes from at least two concealed vents and a ground clearance of at least 5 cm: air comes in at the bottom, moisture escapes at the top.

Coated polyester fabrics and simple plastic sheeting are common. Cheap sheeting quickly turns brittle in the sun and often tears after a single season. We sew from Cover-PVC, a polyester fabric with a PVC coating: 4,000 mm water column, UV-stabilised, lightfast (grade 7-8), abrasion-resistant with 60,000 Martindale cycles and tested to OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

The price depends mainly on four things: standard size or made to measure, fabric and coating, construction with vents, seams and fastening, and the size and shape of the lounge. An L-shape or a sun island with a canopy needs more fabric and more sewing than a rectangular cover.

Whenever you are not using the lounge for a while - overnight when rain is forecast, during longer spells of bad weather and above all over the winter. Put the cover on dry furniture where possible, so the ventilation only has little moisture to carry away.

Cover-PVC is made for permanent outdoor use: waterproof, UV-stabilised, abrasion-resistant and tear-resistant. For winter, the construction matters as well. With ground clearance and vents, the lounge stays dry under the cover even for months.

Our covers have tension straps with click buckles on legs or corner points and a drawcord in the hem. Pull both tight. Because the cover is made to measure, little air stays underneath and the wind finds hardly anything to catch.

You can, but under a cover a lawn is damp ground. The moisture rises and condenses on the inside of the cover. So make sure the cover does not rest on the grass: our covers end at least 5 cm above the ground, so air can flow in.

Yes. We make a U-shape as a variant of the L-shape, and round or semi-circular furniture is covered with the sun island shape. As we sew to measure, there are no fixed size steps. For very large groups we check with you whether several covers work better than one.

By hand with lukewarm water, a sponge or a soft brush and a little mild detergent, then rinse with clear water and leave to air-dry. No washing machine, no ironing, no tumble dryer. Make sure the cover is completely dry before you store it.
