Outdoor tablecloths by shape and size

If you want to buy table linens from us, you will find tablecloths for outdoor use. All models are collected under Outdoor tablecloth. The choice starts with the shape of your table: rectangular or round. Size then decides the rest: up to 150 cm in width or 160 cm in diameter, we sew a custom tablecloth in 19 colours. Beyond that, the Extra Large version is available in four light shades.

Work out the tablecloth size

The right size - table size plus overhang

Before you order a made to measure tablecloth, measure the table: the size is the table size plus the overhang on each side. As a rule of thumb, allow 20 to 30 cm of overhang per side, or 15 to 25 cm on a patio, so the edge does not rest on your knees and the wind has less to catch. Measure the tabletop, not the frame.

Rectangular - how to calculate

Table length plus twice the overhang, table width plus twice the overhang. For a 90 x 180 cm table with a 20 cm overhang, this gives a tablecloth of 130 x 220 cm.

Round - how to calculate

Diameter of the tabletop plus twice the overhang. A round table of 120 cm needs a cloth of 160 cm in diameter with a 20 cm overhang - the largest size of the round made to measure tablecloth.

When to choose Extra Large

If the result is over 150 cm in width or over 160 cm in diameter, choose the Extra Large version. It is cut from the 320 cm wide Agora fabric roll.

Allow for small deviations

We sew to your centimetre measurements, and a small margin is normal for any textile cut. What is usual is explained under Tolerances for made-to-measure products.

Corners and hem

Rectangular tablecloths have a turned hem of approx. 3 cm with mitred corners, so the corner lies flat and neat. Round tablecloths get a narrow hem of approx. 1 cm that follows the curve.

Which material for outdoor table linens

For a garden table, the material decides whether the cloth still looks good after the first summer. We sew from Agora, a solution-dyed acrylic from Tuvatextil in Spain - the colour sits in the core of the fibre. You can read more under What is solution-dyed and on the fabric page Agora Liso. The overview shows how acrylic compares with oilcloth, cotton and linen outdoors.

Table linens for garden, patio and dining table

An outdoor tablecloth for garden, patio or balcony protects the tabletop from scratches, moisture and stains. It is hard-wearing and still remains a piece of fabric. These points help with your choice.

19 colours made to measure, four shades extra large

Made to measure, the colours are Blanco, Marfil, Alabastro, Silver, Perla, Gris, Mineral, Antracita, Cafe, Admiral, Marino, Lavanda, Malva, Granate, Red, Terracota, Mandarina, Amarillo and Limon. Extra Large is available in Blanco, Marfil, Silver and Perla - light shades that keep any long table looking calm. The Agora Plains collection shows the colours at a glance.

Modern rather than old-fashioned

Plain tablecloths in strong or muted shades look modern today, for example the round tablecloth in Terracota on a wooden table or Antracita with light chairs.

Looking for a dusky pink tablecloth?

The mauve shade in our range is called Malva. A fabric sample is the surest way to see whether it matches the shade you have in mind. See the product rectangular tablecloth in Malva.

Also for the dining table indoors

What works outdoors also works in the kitchen and dining room. The finish is PFAS-free (Eco-Shield), and the fabric is washable and easy to care for - handy when children join the meal.

Care in brief

How to keep the tablecloth clean

Agora acrylic is easy to care for: most stains come out with water and mild soap. Full details are in the Care instructions for table linens.

Blot stains straight away

Blot fresh stains with a clean cloth and do not rub. Then work on them with lukewarm water and neutral soap.

Wash at 30 °C

Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30 °C at most, without fabric softener and with a low spin speed. Do not dry clean.

Air dry

Do not tumble dry. Acrylic dries quickly on the line. If needed, iron at a low temperature.

Stubborn stains

Diluted bleach at a ratio of 1 to 20 does not harm the solution-dyed fibre. Which mixture helps with which stain is explained in the Care notes for our fabrics.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Table linens are all the textiles that go on a table: tablecloths, table runners, placemats and napkins. At Germes, table linens are outdoor tablecloths in water-repellent acrylic, rectangular or round.

Tablecloth and table cover mean the same thing: a fabric that covers the whole tabletop and hangs over on all sides. A table runner is a narrow strip that lies only down the middle of the table and leaves most of the top uncovered.

For the garden, table linens made from solution-dyed acrylic are a good fit. They are water-repellent, the colour withstands sun with a lightfastness of 7-8 out of 8, and they go in the washing machine. Oilcloth also keeps moisture out but looks like plastic.

Indoors, both are lovely natural fibres: linen is sturdier, cotton is softer. Outdoors, both are only suitable for the occasion: they absorb liquid, fade in the sun and belong back indoors after the meal. For a tablecloth that can stay outside, acrylic is the better choice.

For a festive evening, yes. For everyday use on the patio, rather not. Red wine and barbecue sauce soak into linen, and after a summer in the sun the colour is visibly paler. An acrylic tablecloth takes both more calmly.

Table size plus overhang on each side. As a rule of thumb, allow 20 to 30 cm of overhang per side, or 15 to 25 cm outdoors. For a 90 x 180 cm table with a 20 cm overhang, this gives a tablecloth of 130 x 220 cm.

Measure the length and width of the tabletop, or the diameter for a round table. Add the overhang you want twice. If the result is up to 150 cm in width or 160 cm in diameter, the made to measure tablecloth fits. Above that, choose the Extra Large version.

The perfect size has the same overhang on every side. Examples at 20 cm: a table of 80 x 80 cm needs 120 x 120 cm, a table of 90 x 180 cm needs 130 x 220 cm, and a round table of 120 cm needs 160 cm in diameter.

Yes. We sew rectangular tablecloths up to 150 cm in width in any length and round ones up to 160 cm in diameter, each in 19 colours. Larger tables get the Extra Large version, rectangular up to 310 cm in width or round up to 320 cm in diameter.

Tablecloths are fashionable again, just differently from before: plain instead of flowery, in muted or strong shades and in fabrics you do not need to treat gently. Outdoors, a tablecloth also protects the tabletop from scratches and weather.

An overhang of 15 to 25 cm gives the cloth weight at the sides. In wind, tablecloth clips at the corners help. In a storm, the cloth belongs indoors.

Blot fresh stains and work on them with mild soap. Machine wash on a gentle cycle at 30 °C at most, without fabric softener, then air dry. No tumble dryer, no dry cleaning.

Yes. Acrylic feels like an ordinary fabric tablecloth but is washable and easy to care for. The water-repellent finish is free of PFAS, which is also a plus for indoor rooms.
