Outdoor mattresses made to measure at a glance

An outdoor mattress is a mattress for outside spaces, with a cover that withstands sun, showers and dirt. We sew our outdoor mattresses in Westoverledingen to your measurements: foam core, thermal fleece and a removable cover in solution-dyed acrylic. Every model folds together. The difference lies in the fabric, so the range is sorted by collection.

What the cover withstands outdoors

All five fabrics are solution-dyed: the colour sits in the core of the fibre and not on the surface. That is why the colours are UV-resistant, the lightfastness is 7 to 8 out of 8, and the manufacturer gives a 5-year guarantee on colour fastness. All of them are finished to repel water and dirt, PFAS-free. How hard-wearing a cover is, is measured by the Martindale test. All colours and data sheets for each collection: Agora Life, Agora Panama, Agora Lines and Rayure and Agora Simmetria.

Honestly explained

Weather-resistant, water-repellent or waterproof?

The three terms are often mixed up. For a mattress that lies outside, it means this: the cover withstands sun, showers and stains, and the foam core inside should stay dry. The guide What does waterproof mean explains the difference between the terms.

Water-repellent

The finish makes raindrops and spilt liquids bead off before they soak in. In the spray test, Agora Panama, Lines, Rayure and Life Liso reach 5 out of 5 points.

The cover is water-repellent, not waterproof

Woven acrylic holds a water column of 180 mm. That is enough for a summer shower, not for continuous rain or standing water. If you are looking for a waterproof outdoor mattress in 90x200, you get a water-repellent cover from us, not a laminated one. What the figure means is explained under What is a water column.

Weather-resistant and waterproof

Neither word is a standard term. By weather-resistant we mean that the cover withstands sun, showers and dirt over many summers. For water resistance the measured values count, so we give the spray test and the water column instead of a label.

The foam core stays drier

The core is foam with a density of RG 40/50, wrapped in 0.5 cm thermal fleece. If water gets through a seam or the weave in heavy rain, the core needs time to dry. More about how a filling is built in the guide What is upholstery filling.

Prevent mould

Mould grows where moisture stays for a long time. Never leave a wet mattress lying covered. How to remove mildew stains is shown in the guide Mould on outdoor textiles.

Where it lies

Patio, balcony, garden, boat and daybed

The outdoor mattress is one of four categories under Mattresses made to measure, all from the same workshop. If you want a patio mattress or a garden mattress, the most important thing is the right size. You set the length, width and thickness, and you choose the thickness between 4 and 20 cm. How to measure the lying surface is shown in the measuring guide for furniture cushions, and what counts as a normal deviation for textiles is described under Tolerances for made-to-measure items.

Patio and balcony

As a floor mattress outdoors it lies directly on decking or tiles, for sunbathing, reading or as a play area for children. Stood on its side against the wall in the evening, the floor underneath dries quickly.

Daybed and pallet furniture

For a daybed, a lounge or home-built pallet furniture, we sew the mattress to the inside dimensions of the frame. You will find matching seat and back cushions under Pallet cushions, and more fabrics under Outdoor fabrics.

Garden and camping

On the lawn or in a tent it brings lying comfort to the ground, and folded together you carry it under your arm. For caravans and motorhomes there are separate cuts under Caravan mattresses.

Boat

On deck and in the cabin every centimetre counts. Send us the measurements or a template of the lying surface through the service centre. Rinse salt and sun cream out with clear water after the trip, before they dry on.

Standard sizes, folding and folded

An outdoor mattress 140 x 200 for the daybed or 90 x 200 as a lounger is sewn just like any special size. The page Folding mattresses describes standard sizes and folding, the page Foldable mattresses describes special sizes for storing. An outdoor mattress cover 140x200 for an existing mattress is best discussed with us, because we sew every cover individually anyway.

Care and winter

Cleaning, drying and winter storage

The cover is easy to care for: clear water and a soft cloth are usually enough. Everything else is in the care instructions for Agora and in the care guide for outdoor cushions.

Removing stains

Wipe off fresh stains with lukewarm water and neutral soap. For stubborn stains and mildew stains, the Agora care instructions allow diluted bleach at a ratio of 1:20, followed by a thorough rinse.

Removing and washing the cover

You take the cover off through the sewn-in zip. Wash it with mild soap at 30 °C at most and let it dry in the open air, not in a tumble dryer.

Drying after rain

After a shower, stand the mattress on its side in an airy place until cover and core are dry. In continuous rain, it is better to bring it under a roof.

Dry storage in winter

Before winter, wash the cover, let everything dry completely and store the mattress folded together in a dry, airy place, such as a cellar or a garden shed. An airtight plastic bag is a poor choice, because moisture collects inside it.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, the cover withstands sun, showers and dirt. The colours hold thanks to a lightfastness of 7 to 8 out of 8, and the finish makes rain bead off. In continuous rain you should put the mattress under cover or let it dry on its side, and over the winter it belongs indoors, dry, in the cellar or in the garden shed.

Not with a woven cover. A fabric only becomes waterproof through a coating or a laminate. Our Agora covers are water-repellent, not waterproof: 5 out of 5 in the spray test and a water column of 180 mm. That is enough for showers and spilt drinks. In continuous rain and standing water, moisture can reach the core.

Hardly. With solution-dyed acrylic the colour is already in the fibre before it is spun. The Agora fabrics reach a lightfastness of 7 to 8 on the scale up to 8 according to ISO 105-B02, and the manufacturer gives a 5-year guarantee on colour fastness.

A fabric for outdoors has to withstand UV rays, rain and stains. That is why all five collections are solution-dyed acrylic. Plain fabrics are available in Agora Life and Agora Panama, stripes in Agora Lines and Agora Rayure, jacquard patterns in Agora Simmetria. At 405 to 420 g/m², Simmetria is clearly heavier than Lines and Rayure at 260 g/m².

You choose the thickness between 4 and 20 cm. As a pad in a daybed or on a frame, less thickness is enough than for a mattress that lies directly on decking or grass. The foam core with a density of RG 40/50 is the same in every thickness.

Every outdoor mattress is cut and sewn only after you order it. Depending on the season, that takes 10 to 15 working days. The configurator calculates the price as soon as you have entered the measurements, thickness and fabric.
