How we build a mattress to size

Nothing sits ready on a shelf. Every mattress starts after your order: cut the foam, wrap it, sew the cover. Which fabric goes on the core is listed on the fabric range page - for outdoor use we take the outdoor fabrics.

Foam core with density RG 35/40

The foam in the core has a density of 35/40, comparable to firmness grade H3. That is furniture quality, not packing foam.

A 0.5 cm thermal fleece wrap

A 0.5 cm fleece layer sits around the foam core. It protects the foam, evens out the edges and lets the cover sit smoothly.

Removable, washable cover

Every cover has a sewn-in zip. It comes off and goes into the machine at 40 °C at most, see care and cleaning for the details.

Your measurements, angled ones too

You set length, width and thickness. Bed boxes in vehicles are rarely rectangular - rounded corners, angled sides and cutouts are sewn in. For unusual shapes a template is enough, the tolerances for customization are described there.

10 to 15 working days

Because every mattress is sewn after the order comes in, production takes 10 to 15 working days depending on the season.

In four steps

How to order your custom size mattress

1

Measure the sleeping area

Note length, width and the thickness you want, and measure corners and curves as well. Diagrams are in the [measurement guides](https://www.germes.com/en/measurement-instructions).

2

Choose the fabric

Samples ship free of charge. How hard-wearing a quality is, is explained in our guide on [what Martindale means](https://www.germes.com/en/what-is-martindale).

3

Order in the configurator

Enter the measurements, choose fabric and finish, the price is calculated straight away. For special shapes an e-mail with a sketch to our [customer service](https://www.germes.com/en/customer-service) is enough.

4

We sew and ship

Cutting, wrapping, sewing - then the mattress is on its way. If you travel a lot, our [RV camping hacks](https://www.germes.com/en/rv-camping-hacks) are worth a read.

Rarely. Bed boxes in caravans and motorhomes have angled sides, wheel arches or rounded corners. That is why the caravan mattress and the RV mattress come in 27 shapes, from rectangular to trapezoid. Measure length, width and height of the bed box and pick the shape that matches.

A foam core with a density of RG 35/40, comparable to firmness grade H3, a 0.5 cm thermal fleece wrap around it and the sewn cover on top. That build is the same for the outdoor mattress, the folding mattress and the foldable mattress.

The covers for outdoor use are made of solution dyed acrylic from the Agora range. The fabric is water and dirt repellent and colour stable in the sun, but not waterproof the way a laminated cover is. A mattress that stays outside should be stored dry in long rain and over winter.

Yes. The cover has a sewn-in zip, you pull it off and wash it at 40 °C at most with a mild detergent. The foam core itself stays dry.

The price follows the area, the thickness and the fabric, and the configurator works it out as soon as the measurements are in. You do not need to ask for a quote.

Yes. They come out of the same workshop, wherever they end up later. Send us the measurements or a template of the sleeping area and we will work out the cut.
