Dralon - The Jack of All Trades Among Fabrics

What is Dralon?

Dralon is a high-quality synthetic fiber made of polyacrylic and is equipped with a water and dirt-repellent finish. Dralon is 100% acrylic and is dry spun, and the fibers are dyed.

What is Polyacrylic and how is it made?

PPolyacrylic, like polyester, is a synthetic fiber. These fibers can be made using both wet and dry spinning processes. Polyacrylic fibers are fluffy, voluminous, and have a wool-like character. The production process of acrylic fibers is associated with the best global CO2 balance for responsible environmental management.

Is Dralon waterproof?

No, Dralon is not completely waterproof, however, due to its finish, it is weatherproof, i.e., water-repellent.

Water-repellent means that the fabric offers stronger protection when wet, because in addition to the property that the fabric is tightly woven, it is also impregnated with a protective layer. This additional protection ensures that it takes even longer for liquids to seep through the fabric.

Is Dralon breathable?

Due to the rapid moisture release, Dralon fabrics are breathable and counteract sweating. Also, the fabric is resistant to moths and other textile pests. As the synthetic fiber does not cause any irritations, textiles made from it are optimally skin-friendly and suitable for sensitive people who are prone to allergic reactions.

Properties of Dralon

Dralon offers excellent UV protection (UPF 50+) and is certified according to the Öko-Tex Standard 100. The fabric is water-repellent, mold and bacteria-resistant, lightfast, and resistant to chlorine and saltwater. Dralon fabrics are also particularly insensitive, dimensionally stable, and easy to care for. Also, Dralon is very suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. Non-stick finish

This non-stick finish gives our fabric a stain protection and is also water-repellent. The chemical inertness ensures that Teflon hardly reacts with other substances and therefore provides good encapsulation protection. This Teflon coating poses no health risk to humans.

This finish lasts 3-5 washes before it loses the coating.

Lightfastness

The Dralon fabrics have a high lightfastness value. This is here at a value of 5-8 where 8 is the highest value. The value varies depending on the color and therefore cannot be precisely determined. You can read more about lightfastness in our following article: What is lightfastness?

Care

To maintain a long life of the fabric or the pad, proper care is extremely important. Everything you need to know about this, we have summarized in the following article for you: Care Instructions Dralon

Chlorine Test

In order to give our customers a good answer with a clear conscience, we conducted an in-house chlorine test.

The fabric samples that we rubbed with a chlorine mixture (water and chlorine) and let sit overnight show no stains. Although we do not recommend cleaning the fabrics with chlorine - if some water should drip from the pool onto your sun lounger cushions, this will not be a problem.
